After granny Dr. Ruth in the Eighties and the sex-columnist Dan Savage in the Nineties, my new icon for the new Millennium is the sex-blogger Karley Sciortino. This gal is daring, edgy and extreme. Her blog – named SLUTEVER (namesake?) – talks about sex and relationships. The young and beautiful Karley, who studied at the prestigious Ivy League Columbia University, came to the fore a couple of years ago when, along with other female college mates, she shot a very provoking video, called Initiation, in the library of the afore-mentioned university. The video was intended to expose the rampant academic machismo. Today Karley writes a sex-column on Vogue America, thus showing how, notwithstanding US’s conformism, freedom of expression in America is always protected. In Italy, in terms of sexual talk on mainstream publications we are in the dark. When I had my sex-column on a magazine of a major publishing house, I was constantly censored and my articles were cut and distorted, to become more ordinary and in line with the reigning sexual hypocrisy. It was then I realized that my ardent and fiery voice needed a more democratic and wide-reaching platform, open to the whole world. Funny enough the name of my column was ‘No Taboo Sex’. Therefore taking Miss Slutever as a inspiring cue, I decided to take a leap of (un)faith and launch into this blog adventure. BLOGJOB RULEZ!
